Did you come to the Fairtrade Clothes Party in July? If so, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The evening kicked off with fairtrade wine and a vegan buffet, then time to browse and buy from a stunning collection of fairtrade, recycled and organic cotton clothes. Arkadash were selling 'No Sweat' trainers in addition to organic cotton garments from their shop on Manchester Road in Chorlton. Snood, a design duo based in Leeds were showcasing their signature vintage knitwear, customised with satin sashes, buttons and much more…. woollies to die for indeed! Jessica from One-less-plastic-bag was selling her beautiful shoppers made from recycled polyester saris, also available from the shop for just £7.99. Rosie, from Gaia on Burton Road in West Didsbury was selling Howie's shirts and jeans, in addition to an amazing range of reclaimed silk clothes designed by "From Somewhere".
Attendees brought 5 items of clothing with the best being cherry picked for auction later. We raised £60 for the campaigning group "Labour behind the Label" (for more info go to www.labourbehindthelabel.co.uk). The evening ended with a rummage and we're glad to report no casualties (jumble sales can be quite violent you know). If you missed the party we're planning another for later in the year, so start saving all your unwanted clothing ...
