Organic Fruit and Vegetables - what's in season in the UK in
September
A good month for fruit; blackberries, early apples, damsons, early pears and plums - roll on the crumble! Summer veg is joined by the earliest of winter ones so there's lots to choose from; spinach, onions, cabbages, kale, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, French beans, courgettes, red onions, peppers, aubergines, marrows, sweetcorn, leeks, beetroot and broccoli. Swedes come back, sprouts begin and main crop potatoes are lifted.
October
This is the main season for apples and pears. The first Bramleys are now available, as are sweetcorn, marrows, mushrooms, beetroots, squash, watercress, onions and leeks. The Jerusalem artichoke season begins, while cauliflowers, main crop potatoes, carrots, sprouts and broccoli are all at their peak.
