Green Diesel comes to Manchester

Not really Eighth Day news, but we wanted to plug the new biodiesel garage in Manchester to show our support. Janet spoke to Claire Grimsby from Manchester Biodiesel Cooperative to find out more…  "Biodiesel, made from chemically processed vegetable oil is a largely renewable fuel. It can produce a staggering 80-90% less carbon dioxide than diesel. In France and Germany it has been widely available for a decade and local environmentalists, tired of waiting for Manchester to catch up with Europe, started buying their own fuel in 2002. Since then Manchester Biodiesel Cooperative has grown with help from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and now has a forecourt trading as 'Green Gold.' We are just yards from Piccadilly train station and are the first forecourt in Greater Manchester to stock Biodiesel. Customers include Bullocks No. 147 bus, Emerge Recycling, Limited Resources, Manchester Community Transport, Greater Manchester Transport Limited, Groundwork Oldham, Fairfield Composting and Manchester Van Hire. Contrary to popular belief there is no need to convert a diesel vehicle to use biodiesel. In fact Basic 5 does not even affect the warranty. Other benefits include lubricating qualities that can prolong the life of your engine, more miles per litre and the reduction of smoky emissions".

Green Gold also sell Pure 100 (100% Biodiesel), at the same price or cheaper than supermarket diesel to its members*.  Benefits for members include reminders when services are due, advice about the use of biodiesel (which mix for which engine, for example) a discounted parts ordering service and a  'I run on Green Gold Biodiesel' sticker.
