As you may know our great building saga now looks like it is finally coming
to an end.
We did not want to redevelop, we tried very hard to save the old building, but that option was finally closed to us when our engineers
found severe structural faults that could not be rectified.
In order for us to keep trading we moved into our temporary accommodation in October 2001, for what we thought was a 12 month stay.
Obviously we got that one wrong! We now plan to be in our new building by mid-June. Our aim has been to provide as good a service as we
can throughout this difficult period and we hope we have been succeeding.
Once back in our new building we will offer increased ranges and service in both shop and café, with the exciting prospect
of a much needed state-of-the-art vegetarian and vegan restaurant operating in the evenings.
The cost of the project, including the rents for the temporary accommodation and the building and shopfitting work in the new, is the
biggest investment the co-op has ever made. We are negotiating with commercial lenders to borrow money and would like to offer you the
opportunity to make an ethical investment in Eighth Day.
Once before, in 1980 when we bought the old building and extended the
café, you, our customers, helped us by lending us much needed funds
to help with the costs of the necessary building work. We need your help
again. Eighth Day intend to issue a loanstock, a fixed term, fixed interest
bond. This will be for five years, from April 2003, with a minimum investment
of £250. Repayment will be made in April 2008.
We have been an ethical, social and democratic business for over 30 years, with your help we can survive this period of upheaval and
build on our past success for the future.
If you are interested in making an investment please read the Conditions Of Issue Of Loanstock and the
Summary of Business Plan.
