Health Advice and Testimonials
John came
to see our visiting medical herbalist, Stuart Fitzsimons, from Swiss Herbal
Remedies. He was suffering from frequent urination, particularly during
bouts of cold weather. Often, he had to get up several times during the
night to go to the toilet, resulting in extreme tiredness during the day.
He had been suffering with these symptoms for over ten years. John had
already seen his GP, had some tests, was told he had an irritated bladder
but could not be offered a solution. Stuart recommended Ginger Tincture
to warm the internal organs and increase circulation. He said the beauty
of the tincture is that it enters the blood stream very easily so the
effect is fast and efficient. John came back to tell us that improvement
came straight away and rated the level of improvement at 80-90%. He also
felt that the ginger had helped to protect him from colds and flu.
So how does
ginger work? Ginger is primarily a circulatory stimulant, opening up blood
vessels and driving it to where you need it. It is a great herb to treat
poor circulation, e.g. cold hands and Raynaud’s Disease.
By stimulating
blood flow to the abdominal organs it helps to relieve period pains, irritable
bowel, colic and wind, and improve digestion. Ginger reduces nausea even
if it is due to motion (travel sickness) or pregnancy.
By improving
circulation to the chest it is a great aid to relieving congestion in
the chest, ears, throat and sinuses.
Ginger improves
blood flow to the joints but some of its components are also directly
antiinflammatory and therefore useful for all inflammatory joint problems.
It combines well with hemp oil, flax, white willow and devils claw in
treating arthritis, and with peppermint and dandelion in the treatment
of gut problems.
Contraindications
Do not take ginger if you are taking Warfarin. Use ginger with caution
if you have gastritis or stomach/duodenal ulcers or inflammation of the
bowel. It is safe to use with children.
