A Big Thank You From The Café

We were all heartbroken by the flood of pictures showing the reality of the earthquake which struck Haiti at the beginning of the year. Collectively we decided to donate our tips, which we pooled over a couple of months, to Action Aid.

Action Aid is a charity that was founded specifically to help the poorest countries in the world. It has been operating in Haiti since the mid 90’s helping local organisation and strengthening community links and working with them to improve access to water, health services and business loans. Haiti is a country that is often hit with natural disasters. This, coupled with its weak economy, means that the people who live there are some of the most vulnerable in the world. In the wake of these disasters Action Aid provides food, water, medicine, sanitation and shelter and they work to get kids back to school as quickly as possible. They also provide long-term psycho-social support for communities recovering from natural disasters.

We chose Action Aid because of its long established presence in the country, its focus on community regeneration and its promise to tackle the inequalities and poverty that lie at the heart of this devastated country. Thanks to our lovely customers, we raised an amazing £435, which is winging its way over there now to help in any way it can.
